The department of Post Office (DoP) also known as India Post is a postal services owned by the Government of India under the Post Department. It is an important of the Government’s Communication Ministry in the country. People generally call it the Post Office & it is a widely distributed postal service in the entire world.
The sector deals with mails, remittances, life insurance cover plans and accept small savings. It provides a variety of retail services as well such as selling form, collecting bills, etc. There are twenty three postal circles in the country which are administrated by a Post Master General. Each circle is managed by a general & there are properly divided into regions.
These regions are headed by field units and are known as divisions (which are further divided into sub divisions). Other than the twenty three circles, a circle is dedicated to the Indian Armed Forces to provide smooth postal services which is headed by the Director General.
The department of Post Office (DoP) or Indian Posts have 155,015 offices which are evenly distributed in the world. The largest post office of India is situated in Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh which is run by the Indian Post Department at an elevation of 4,700 metres.
